Windsor Ladies 2s hearts were broken when they conceded a last gasp goal to Marlow Ladies 5s.
A rare misunderstanding at the back allowed hosts Marlow to nick one past keeper Ruki Sayid who had been solid all game.
The goal undermined 67 minutes of a gutsy and determined display by Windsor for most of the evenly balanced match.
While Marlow proved wily in attack with some terrific runs down the wings, the defence led by captain Emma Briggs with Nikki Hill, Natalie Morrison and Toni Riemer, dealt with the threat.
And with Sayid - the busier of the two keepers - making several smart saves, the score remained 0-0 at half time.
At the re-start, Windsor took the game to the reds with Annalies Hogan dominating the right and with Emma Williams and Tasha Bailey in the middle and Emma Thatcher on the left, the team pushed Marlow into their own half.
Elle Gatehouse and Faye Kerr led the forward line and while Windsor worked hard to get behind the Marlow defence, the promotion hopefuls dug in and closed the gaps.
Windsor's disciplined and structured performance looked like it would net them a well earned away point against a team that has only lost three out 17 games.
But a Windsor slip-up at the back saw an opportunist Marlow strike which looked like it was going just wide of the goal, defy the law of physics.
Somehow it skewed its path to safety and turned dangerously inward to slide the other side of the post.
The visitors could only look on in disbelief while Marlow's relief was palpable as they knew Lady Luck was on their side.
With the clock now Windsor's greatest enemy, the team rallied and tried to get back in the game while an upbeat Marlow battened down the hatches and saw out the dying minutes with the 1-0 win edging them closer to a promotion place in Trysports Division 3.
The Ladies 2s now have a week off and will be back in action on Saturday, March 21 when they play Aylesbury Ladies 2s away.
