Comfortable result but three hard won points

Windsor Ladies 2s beat foot of the table Abingdon Ladies 2s but made hard work of the 3-1 home win.
Playing a high line, Windsor were caught on the hop as a long ball put Abingdon through on goal and keeper Ruki Sayid was outwitted by the striker who found an empty net to slot in the opener.
The scrappy game did not allow the hosts to settle into a rhythm and Abingdon's midfield broke up play making it difficult for Windsor to build up any significant moves.
But a penalty corner gave Windsor a breakthrough as the ball went wide and was picked up by Alice Tredwell on the right.
Her first strike was saved but the second attempt was hit true and fast and sailed into the back of the net from a difficult angle to give Windsor the equaliser.
With the score level at half time, and relegation on the horizon for Abingdon, the visitors dug in and squeezed Windsor forcing them to try and find a way through narrow gaps.
Tasha Bailey weaved through the middle and Emma Thatcher, Emma Williams and Faye Kerr worked tirelessly to create channels.
Forward Vicky Thompson found some space on the left and when the ball was passed, wriggled free of her marker and took her chance to give Windsor the lead and some breathing space.
Abingdon always looked dangerous on the break and a forward raced to pick up a long ball that had beaten Windsor but Sayid was off her line quickly to meet it at the top of the D and pass to captain Emma Briggs to start a move from the back.
With Abingdon chasing the game, Windsor began to play more freely and teenager Brooke Sumner impressed on the left with some deft stick work and intelligent passing.
Natalie Morrison put in a shift in defence with Nikki Hill and skipper Briggs marshalling the back line while forwards Paula George and Emma Batterbee worked hard to get behind the Abingdon back four.
And as it looked like Windsor would see out the game at 2-1, Kerr's gutsy determination paid off and she was rewarded when she picked up the ball at the top of the D and fired in an unstoppable shot to bury the game as the clock ran down.
On Saturday, March 7, Windsor face Trysports Division 3 promotion hopefuls Marlow Ladies 5s away.
