MBBO Division 2
Windsor Men’s 1st XI x Eastcote 3rd XI
After a close match at previous fixture Wycombe Away Windsor were looking to get a win this week against newly relegated Eastcote who had suffered a shaky start to the season.
The sun was shining unusually bright as the wind swept through the town. A calm morning start was abruptly taken away by the sound of Rap and Grime blistering the ears of the school children, the stomping of a late Harley Jones who had begun his warm up in Eton and a skipping Jack Snell who had been tying his man bun all morning long.
Windsor knew from the start this wasn’t going to be a walk in the park as a fresh Eastcote side looked poised to gain their first win of the season.
After a slow start from Windsor the pressure was building as the opposition had the home team pinned in their own half. The constant pressure had led to a short corner being awarded to the visitors after youngster Kai Ziemkendorf tried to kick the player when he forgot how to tackle.
Kai was looking to make a name for himself after making it back into the squad and sitting tight on left post. Straight strike taken quickly with a neat deflection from Kai into the top right corner leaving Veteran keeper David “Dive” Ive clueless and making Kai realise he was meant to be keeping the ball out of the goal instead of on Eastcote’s top goal scorer list.
The shaky start didn’t seem to rattle the squad as Windsor reacted quick and obtained many equalising opportunities and short corners to no result. Alas Windsor did not stop the bombardment.
Inspiration driven from the side-line from Men’s coach Matt Wells and Men’s 1st XI Conquistador Marcus Barrow led to a mind shattering Aerial from Dev “the self-appointed best left back in the league” Mavar being well played leading to another short for the Home side.
Eastcote defences determined faces poised to stop yet another short led to some master trickery from back up injector Dev “misplaying” the ball to the left of the D. Confusion and panic set in for Eastcote and unintentionally to some of the Windsor players leading to a shot by Alex Wright being deflection off the keeper to be followed up by Jack Snell for a neat push into the goal.
Bewildered and uncomfortable Eastcote unable to handle the pressure from engine Charles Lambert and Kwesi Twerefoo succumbed to the pressure created as they tore apart the wings and centre of the pitch. Some say Corona couldn’t even catch these two.
Plays led to Ali Parkes receiving the ball and after realising he is unable to recreate his miracle goal from the first game or to knock chief editor Ollie Cook from the top goal scorer perch, he did the impossible. He had passed the ball.
A screaming captain Sean Wright making his first league game back had received the ball neatly on the far-left post where he tucked away the ball into the goal for Windsor to lead the half 2-1. Roars from the amazing home crowd from such a feat was through the sheer shock of the situation. I have only seen this happen once in the last two years but pretty sure I had imagined that.
Spirits high from the end of the first with the words of the coach still ringing in our ears Windsor came out determined to show not just the opposition, but the league that we are true contenders this season.
Simple plays of hockey seemed to rattle the opposition leading to several missed opportunities in the second half. A well-played pass through to Sean prepared Windsor’s Captain to bag his second on the match however Sean’s mind had seemed to wander and his yearning for absentee Will Biff made him turn on the reverse and fluff the shot. Some say he will always do the “Biff” in a match and some say Biff is still in the local garage.
Seeing how miraculous the aerials were played earlier in the match not wanting to be outplayed Pascal Van Huffel decided to throw some at the opposition players. Angered by the lack of penetration into the oppositions half the freight train had arrived to make his way down the line running over half of the Eastcote youths in the process. The sheer fear in their eyes as the South African monster came charging at them on the right wing made anyone lose their nerve and even possibly their supper.
Rattled and feared Eastcote could not recover from the smooth flow and overwhelming pressure brought by the Windsor side which led to the ball received into the D and scored by Martyn Essery with a clean reverse into the goal.
But who had made this pass you say? Well it was the one and only Alex Wright. Some say this miraculous feat that happens once in a lifetime and had shocked yours truly so much so to tackle myself at one point, but I suppose that’s a story for another time.
Final whistle concluded the result as 3-1 with the Windsor Men’s team buzzing and raring to go for next week’s clash away against Oxford Hawks 5’s.
